Back to Business

The past 15 days have been crazy! Moving into a new place is something that takes up a ton of time and effort. This was my first major move so I didn’t really know what to expect. Now all the boxes are put away the internet is connected and the living has officially commenced.

Starting a new job is another major event in my life! I am working a late shift and it has really thrown my whole routine out of wack. The adjusting has been difficult, especially when do I work on my own stuff. I was rushed before work and too tired after.

I’ve worked out a routine of getting to bed as early as I can so I can use my waking hours, which are my most productive, for projects.

I am glad that this month’s goal is only $10 because if it was anything more I don’t think I would have made it. If you let your income streams slide for a few days they begin to crumble. You constantly need to work at them to strengthen them! I really need to take my own advice and get back to posting more!!

Slow Start to the Month of May

It’s already May 7 and I have made almost no money online so far! I have earned a whopping total of $2.74 through adsense. I will not reach my goal this month, which is $10 not $20 like I mistakenly stated in a previous post, at thatrate. I will have to bump up my earning power!

This month I want to work on my link building and the affiliate site. For my link building I am going to use a domain I already own and develop it in to a link directory. I will point as many links as I can towards it, and build a solid page rank for the next update and do three way reciprocal linking to Pursuit of Profit.

The domain I am going to use for the directory is www.axonseek.com, so far it has phplinkdirectory installed on it and a template that I need to do some hacking on. I believe it will have it at a PR4 - 5 by next update, so it will be a strong backlink to have.

Another option I was considering for link building was setting up a directory on the Pursuit of Profit domain. So for example something like www.pursuitofprofit.com/directory. The benefit of setting up the directory this way would be all backlinks and recipricol links would be pointing at the Pursuit of Profit domain name and all the traffic involved with both the blog and the directory would be going towards one Alexa ranking.

The affiliate site is still sitting on pause until the landing page is built. Building this landing page is turning in to a more work than I had anticipated, but when it is done it will be my main income stream.

The possibility of earning huge dollars off of an affiliate campaign can make an it the highest work to profit ratio available to us web marketers. You build a site once, update, tweak and continually reap the profits.

Blogs can make money as well, but the effort to profit ratio is extremely small. If you want to make big money online you have to be selling items or services. Tip of the day: Sell downloads or anything you can automate and then pump as much traffic as you can to the site!

That’s all for today, but look out tomorrow for pictures of the basement with the ping pong table set up!!

For those of your who haven’t started reading John Chows blog yet, you should! He has as many helpful pointers as other big time bloggers like Problogger. Today he wrote an interesting article on Beginner Blogging Tips. He has identified five major tips that are insightful, and real.

Reading this post makes me glad I began this $10k journey and has made me even more passionate in reaching my goals.

Is the Honeymoon Period Over?

I had no idea what kind of reception I would recieve when I first started this journey a week ago on April 1. I have found that everyone who’s commented and who I have talked to are very supportive of this journey to $10k a month. From day one everything was going great, the hits were rolling in from one of my posts which I submitted to Digg, people were commenting, and my adsense income was much better than I had expected.

Now after the first week, the blog has gained a bit of traction. Readers are becoming regulars, which is amazing, and coming back and checking for updates. New readers aren’t really making their way over here yet. This doesn’t bother me, because the site is still so new and not much backlinking has taken place.

What has me searching for a solution is the fact that my adsense income has dropped from where it was. I know that adsense is more unstable than Britney Spears, I went from $2.50 on day 2 to $0. This is actually a good thing, it is going to force me to work harder bringing up adsense earnings, and also building more stable income streams!

Month One: Mission Complete!

After 3 days I am now at my first goal of $5! This is a baby step in the long journey ahead of me, but it feels good completing a goal regardless of how small. One major discouragement with fresh to the game internet marketers, including myself, is having one far off lofty goal that is impossible to attain. You probably think 10k a month is one of these goals, and I can see where you’re coming from! However I’ve broken this goal down in to little goals, baby steps, because you have to crawl before you can walk, and walk before you run!

Meeting little goals encourages me to keep going and gets me even more committed and focused on the next goal.

Step 1. If you are new to internet marketing, sit down and figure out how much you want to make. Realistic thought is definitely your friend at this point, don’t say a million a month unless you think you have the determination and bag of tricks to get to this point.

Step 2. Once you have a goal, break it down to mini milestones. Some good mini milestones are:

  • Traffic goals: I will have 500 unique visitors this month!
  • Backlink goals: I will get at least 4 links a day for the next 30 days!
  • Site development goals: I will write at least 10 posts a week on my blog!

Step 3. Write your goals down! This is huge, it’s so easy to dismiss a thought or a will that has never entered in to reality. Writing a goal down makes it REAL, it makes you feel like REAL shit looking at goals from the past and realizing that you haven’t accomplished them. Staying away from feeling like shit is a good motivator, but so is the success that comes with reaching your goals. Tell someone or post on your blog about your new goals, this takes writing it down one step further! This step also makes you adjust your dreamy goals so they are more attuned to reality.

Step 4. Start completing the goals! Completing goals gives you a sense of satisfaction and boosts your motivation to continue. Look at me, I made $5 and I’m feeling on top of the world because I am one step closer to my end goal! I am 1/11th of the way down my path to $10k a month.

You can use this motivation technique for anything as well. Hope this helps you out, but remember, you gotta do it to make it work!
